The album is more or less straightforward pop/rock with some '80s metal window-dressing, and the Darkness themselves live up to traditional notions of what a rock band should be: louche, decadent, and harboring a don't-bore-us-get-to-the-chorus mentality. After hearing Permission to Land, it's easier to understand why the British public went crazy for it, and for the Darkness. release in summer 2003, Permission to Land, the debut album from spandex-clad retro metalheads the Darkness, was a surprise success, hitting the British charts at number two (behind only Beyoncé's Dangerously in Love). Support also comes from another great British band, Massive Wagons. Now we all know Christmas doesn’t start officially until you see The Darkness preforming Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End) live, and this year is no exception as you can catch the boys out on tour from the 17th. Speed Of The Nite Time has an 80’s rock feel with some seriously good harmonies.Īll in all this album is more solid gold from one of the hardest working bands out there. Sticky Situations is more of a ballad done in a style that only can be carried off by The Darkness, this could be the singalong track of the album. Next it’s the title track Motorheart, this and Nobody Can See Me Cry have riffs that would make the late great Lemmy proud, and they both have massive Darkness choruses.

I’m sure you are now all familiar with the Star Trek infused It’s Love, Jim (But not as we know it) one of the singles released a few weeks ago. It all kicks off with a thumping bass line from Frankie on Welcome Tae Glasgae, and we soon get treated to yet another classic Darkness riff. The good news is you don’t have to wait long as Motorheart is out this Friday the 19th.
